Despite their own personal and family challenges and concerns, PVA’s Field Services Staff continue to make serving our members and their families a top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many of them are working remotely to protect their health and safety and that of our veterans and communities at large, others are still working in their offices each day on behalf of the veterans and families who need them.

Our Field Services Staff has had over 3,600 client contacts in the last week. In addition to addressing health care needs and filing disability claims, several members with ALS have unfortunately passed away, and we are taking care of their surviving spouses.

Assisting a surviving spouse with a claim for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), Burial Benefits and Life Insurance is a challenging and time-consuming responsibility.  This is because we do not want a veteran’s spouse to receive 25 pages of complicated blank VA forms to fill out during such a difficult time.  Therefore we do everything we can to get the needed information from VA systems and complete the forms ourselves, and send out needing just a signature on the forms.

Whether we are assisting surviving spouses in obtaining benefits or veterans with disability claims, we are doing everything possible to make things easier for our members and families during these challenging times.  Rather than sending and receiving necessary forms and other documents through regular mail we are trying to do as much as possible via email and in most instances this is faster and more efficient.  We understand, however, every veteran and spouse may not have this capability and therefore have other methods as well to use as necessary.

The needs of our members and families have not stopped during this pandemic and in fact, have become more urgent. We continue to work closely with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) to address our members’ health care and benefits needs and those of their families, especially now.  Thank you for your service to our country and it remains a privilege to serve you.
